Leise Rieselt der Schnee (Snow Falls Softly)
Words and Music by Eduard Ebel, 1839-1905. Contemporary English translation by Bill Egan, 1997

Leise rieselt der Schnee,
still und starr liegt der See
weihnachtlich glänzet der Wald,
freue dich, ‘s Christkind kommt bald!

S’Kindlein, göttlich und arm,
macht die Herzen so warm,
strahle, du Stern überm Wald,
freue dich, ‘s Christkind kommt bald!

Bald ist heilige Nacht,
Chor der Engel erwacht,
horch nur, wie lieblich es schallt,
freue dich, ‘s Christkind kommt bald!

Snow falls softly at night,
Stars o'er the lake shine so bright,
The forest reflects holy light,
The Christchild is coming tonight!

Hearts of mankind are warm,
Tonight, all sorrow is gone,
From heaven there shines a great light,
The Christchild is coming tonight!

Choirs of angels are singing,
Hear the church bells all ringing,
They tell of a glorious sight,
The Christchild is born on this night!
